Over the past thirty years, Richard McMullen has been a dealer in fine antique jewelry. His love of the Art Nouveau period lead him to study the metalsmithing and enameling techniques of the master jewelers of the early 1900's. For the past ten years, he has been perfecting these same skills to create his own unique designs Each piece is hand made in 18k gold.
He uses many enameling techniques, but his favorite is plique-a-jour. This is a backless application of enamel that resembles stained glass. Although it is the most difficult of all the enameling techniques, the result is most rewarding.
Mr. McMullen has shown in numerous galleries around the country including Aaron Faber Gallery in New York and the SOFA Arts and Crafts Exhibition. His work has been published in the book "Art Jewelry Today" by Dona Meilach and will be featured in Lilyan Bachrach's up coming book "Enameling with Professionals". Mr. McMullen is also a popular lecturer on period Art Nouveau jewelry, focusing on design and manufacturing techniques. Richard sincerely hopes you enjoy his pieces as much as he has enjoyed making them.
